You might be surprised at what you can afford on a £200 a month PCP deal

The overwhelming majority of new cars get onto the road via Personal Contract Purchase (PCP) deals. Some of today’s best new family cars, small hatchbacks, or even SUVs are now available for monthly outgoings of under £200 a month.

We’ve researched the best deals out there at the moment and compiled a top ten selection for you to mull over. Our deals are based on 15 per cent of the value of the car, combined with the manufacturer’s finance discount allowance, and are all for three-year periods with a 30,000-mile limit. The prices quoted here are ones you should be able to achieve on the open market.

Volkswagen Golf 1.0 TSI 110 SE 5dr

3 years PCP finance with 4.9% APR and £1000 finance deposit allowance
Cost per month: £198
On the road price: £16,275
The latest Golf isn’t a cheap family hatchback, but you’re paying for quality. You’re bound to be able to find the right model for you somewhere in the huge range. The deal here is for the turbocharged 1.0-litre petrol version, which is a great option if most of your driving is urban.

Suzuki Vitara 1.6 SZ4

3 years PCP finance with 2.9% APR
Cost per month: £161
On the road price: £14,176
As far as small SUVs go, a PCP-financed Vitara is one of the most cost-effective deals you can do. It’s one the most roomy and well equipped SUVs in its class too: we particularly recommend the SZ4 spec for best value.

Volkswagen Polo 1.2 TSI Match Edition 3dr

3 years PCP finance with 6.2% APR and £1800 finance deposit allowance
Cost per month: £154
On the road price: £11,880
As with the Golf, the Polo seems expensive in comparison to volume-selling small hatchbacks like the Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa, but the classy interior and quietly refined engines will go some way to justifying the extra expense.

Ford Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost Zetec 5dr

3 years PCP finance with 0% APR
Cost per month: £137
On the road price: £13,407
No car sells better in the UK than the Fiesta. The interior can look a bit lacking in quality, but the superb driving dynamics and surprising refinement more than make up for it. The range is massive.

Volkswagen Up 1.0 90 High Up 3dr

3 years PCP finance with 4.6% APR and £500 finance deposit allowance
Cost per month: £177
On the road price: £11,211
Volkswagen’s smallest and least expensive car, the Up nevertheless brings most of the VW brand values: quiet cruising, comfort, a clear dash layout, pleasing drive characteristics and the kind of interior quality you’d expect in a class above.

Seat Leon 1.2 TSI SE Dynamic Technology 5dr

3 years PCP finance with 4.9% APR and £2000 finance deposit allowance
Cost per month: £175
On the road price: £14,852
Excellent to drive, and well stocked with standard equipment in SE Dynamic Technology trim (sat-nav, DAB radio, air conditioning, alloy wheels, rear parking sensors and cruise control), the Leon is a prime example of why PCP deals are so popular.

Hyundai i10 1.2 Premium SE 5dr

3 years PCP finance with 4.9% APR and £500 finance deposit allowance
Cost per month: £165
On the road price: £11,902
Drive an i10 for the first time and you will be mightily impressed by the peace and room that’s on offer in such a small hatchback. Choose the Premium SE model and Hyundai throws in a high-quality touchscreen infotainment system.

Seat Ateca 1.0 TSI Ecomotive S 5dr

3 years PCP finance with 4.9% APR
Cost per month: £163
On the road price: £16,612
A recent addition to this sector, Seat’s first ever SUV has been a smash hit among road test experts, offering a fine drive, excellent practicality and budget pricing. We’d ideally go for the 1.4-litre petrol, but the 1.0-litre in this deal is plenty for most, especially city dwellers.

Kia Rio 1.0 T-GDi 2 5dr

3 years PCP finance with 4.9% APR and £750 finance deposit allowance
Cost per month: £179
On the road price: £13,206
Back in the day, owning a Kia Rio wasn’t something you’d brag about, but the new fourth-generation version is a much nicer car. It delivers low running costs, good equipment and a smooth selection range of petrol engines.

Skoda Fabia 1.2 TSI 90 SE

3 years PCP finance with 2.9% APR and £2000 finance deposit allowance
Cost per month: £152
On the road price: £11,878
A multiple award-winner, Skoda’s latest Fabia is the best small hatch on the market. Its combination of practicality, low noise and poised handling go with excellent build quality and very appealing pricing, even in our favourite SE spec.
