God bless you Ma’am!

BEAUTIFUL blooms – especially in red, white and blue – will be on show all weekend at St Mary’s Church in Castle Road.

The flower festival is being laid on to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and is titled “This Sceptred Isle”.

A preview evening was held last night in the presence of Scarborough’s mayor, Cllr Helen Mallory.

The event will be on today, tomorrow and on Monday from 10am to 4.30pm each day. Admission costs £1.

And on Monday at 7.30pm there will be a harp recital by Angelina Warburton.

Tickets cost £10 to include wine.

The festival has been organised by the Friends of St Mary’s in aid of church fabric funds.

Reverend Martyn Dunning said: “How privileged we are to have a monarch whose sense of Christian vocation is so evident.

“We thank the Lord for Queen Elizabeth’s Christian faith and morality, her sense of calling and her commitment to serve both nation and commonwealth.”

He also thanked the Friends group for organising the event, saying: “We are so grateful to the arrangers for the imaginative displays - and to the Friends of St Mary’s for overseeing the Festival.”

Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy this special event.
