Visitors are afforded access to the machine room of the Central Tramway Company, established in 1881.

The Central Tramway operates a Victorian funicular railway (cliff lift) in Scarborough. The machine room is not normally open to visitors. The equipment is essentially the original equipment, updated to adhere to modern health and safety standards. The railway will be running during the visit. The machine room only has access via stairs.

A family of elephants with a remarkable history will be taking up residence overlooking Staithes Harbour in North Yorkshire in September.

Tara and her two calves, created in woven willow by Whitby sculptor Emma Stothard, will be a centrepiece of the annual Staithes Festival of Arts and Heritage. The Staithes Festival of Arts and Heritage features a selling exhibition of artwork from 157 artists in 97 temporary galleries in cottages, houses and public spaces.

5 Bridlington Weekend of Motoring

Sewerby Hall and Gardens, Sunday September 10

Classic cars, super cars, race cars, rally cars, quirky cars, and all kinds of unusual vehicles with Goldwing bikes and trikes.

A parade of the vehicles will drive through Bridlington between 10.15am and 11am, ending up at Sewerby Hall and Gardens.

There will be additional catering, clothing stalls and accessory stalls to accompany the car show.

The Sunday programme at Sewerby Hall and Gardens will also include a Rusticus adventure, face painting and a craft fair.

Another part of the line-up will be the Sunday Challenge – an 85 mile semi-competitive economy run down the coast and across the Wolds to finish at Sewerby Hall and Gardens.

6 Spa Orchestra

Last of the gala nights for the orchestra. Also on Wednesday September 13 at 7.45pm is A Moonlight Serenade – By Public Demand. A repeat of the season’s first gala of dance band music and all things moonlight.

7 Goldwing Light Parade

The Scarborough GoldWing Light Parade and fireworks display raises thousands of pounds for lifesaving charities, and has become a glittering attraction for the town, bringing riders, their families and visitors from all parts of the UK into Scarborough. 
This year’s fundraising will be in aid of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
