YOUNG women are invited to represent the town at a glittering awards ceremony as the search gets underway for Scarborough’s new beauty queen.

The coveted Miss Scarborough and District 2012 competition is now open and girls are being encouraged to apply in a bid to be crowned this year’s winner at the regional finals due to be held at the beginning of March.

Diane Yalezo, of Desire of Filey Prom and Evening Wear, will be organising the event for a second year running and hopes to see entrants take advantage of the opportunity, representing the values of the competition on a local and national scale.

She said: “The Miss Scarborough and District competition is now going into its fifth year since being reinstated in 2007 by my dear friend, the late Vivienne Lee.

“I relaunched and revamped the competition last year where a packed audience of almost 400 cheered on their favourite girls in a night of glitz and glamour.

“This year promises to be bigger and better with an exciting new venue to be announced shortly.

“The main aim of the competition is to find an entry to represent Scarborough and the whole district in the Miss England Grand final at The Athena in Leicester in April and hopefully bring the title home.

“The winner of Miss Scarborough and District must be beautiful not only on the outside but on the inside too, as over the 12 months of her reign she acts as an ambassador for the whole region.

“Our competition is designed to be fun, will improve your confidence, you will have the opportunity to attend many interesting and exciting activities and functions throughout the year and you will meet lots of interesting people.”

As well as automatic entry to the Miss England finals taking place in Leicester on April 23 and 24, this year’s winner will receive a host of prizes from local businesses.

To apply for the Miss Scarborough and District 2012 competition, entrants must be aged between 17 and 24 years and must have a YO postcode.

Previous contestants who meet the guidelines are invited to apply and students who live and study in the area are also eligible.

To enter, simply fill out the form on this page and send it along with a headshot and full-length picture of yourself to the Evening News.

Alternatively, you can email the relevant details and photos to su-ann.chow@yrnltd.co.uk

Competition organisers are also looking for local businesses to take part through sponsorship - receiving regular promotion - or donations of prizes.

Interested companies can contact Diane Yalezo on (01723) 515175 or 07580447459.

Please note, entrants must comply with all the rules of Miss England which are available to view at www.missengland.info

If you enter and it is found you do not comply with any of the rules, it will result in immediate disqualification.
