Heavy snow showers and freezing temperatures have left Scarborough residents longing for warmer climates and in search of some sun, sea and sand to ease the January blues.
The last two weeks have been among the busiest for travel agents in the town as holiday makers search for summer getaways.
But where is coming up tops for Scarborough travellers in 2013?
According to Thomsons Scarborough manager Kimberly Wilford, as people look to get more for their money, they are booking breaks to further shores.
Speaking from a busy shop in Newborough, she said: “We have been a lot busier than normal as people start thinking about their holidays for the year ahead.
“Spain is making a comeback as a popular destination, and cruising is continuing to grow in popularity with all ages.
“We are seeing a lot of people booking long haul this year as all inclusive options prove more value for money compared to the Mediterranean. Mexico and Florida have both been very popular.
“We have also helping a lot of couple book weddings and honeymoons following Christmas proposals.”
However some people can’t seem to get enough of the snow as festive breaks are being booked in advance of next year’s Christmas holidays.
Claire Brownridge, travel advisor at the Cooperative Travel in Westborough said: “This Christmas we had a lot of people booking to go to Lapland. Many of them enjoyed it so much or told their friends, that we have already had a lot of people in booking to go over Christmas 2013.
“In terms of sun holidays Tenerife has been a popular choice for people looking to travel both now and in the summer. It is a good destination as it appeal to people of all ages.
“Tenerife and Euro Disney seem to the top choices for families looking to travel.”
Euro Disney has also been a popular choice for Scarborough News readers looking to book through the paper’s Reader Travel offers.
