BUDDING Scarborough stars dazzled judges in the town heat of a nationwide talent competition.

Musical, dance, comedy and dramatic acts battled it out at the UK Festival4Stars audition, held at the Spa, in a bid for a place in the Yorkshire Finals on June 10.

If successful, the acts, made up of solo competitors as well as school groups, will go on to compete in the national final.

In the heat there were 12 categories, with four acts going through from each.

Festival head of operations Judy Brunton said: “It was an excellent day and really impressive, particularly the singing categories.

“The Star Group dance category also did very well.

“I go to all the heats all over the UK and it’s the first time we’ve held it at the Spa Grand Hall – it was absolutely brilliant.

“I’m really looking forward to the Yorkshire finals; there will be eight in each category, two go through, and all I can say is I wouldn’t like to be a judge!”

Alongside other individual acts, students from Filey School, Yorkshire Coast College, Scarborough College and St Augustine’s have all made it into the next stages where they will face finalists from Barnsley.

The UK talent competition, established 2004, has previously held heats at Scarborough’s Grand Hotel, and Flamingo Land.
