A pirate party is being held in Scarborough’s Peasholm Park to mark this year’s “Big Lunch” event.

The family fun day will take place this Sunday from 11am to 2pm and admission is free.

Organiser Linda Harper, chairman of Peasholm Park Friends, said: “Last year the theme was fairies and elves. This time we’ve gone for a pirate theme, as the park is known for its boats!

“People are welcome to come along and bring a picnic.”

Pirate fancy dress is encouraged and judging will take place at 1pm. During the day there will be children’s activities, stalls and entertainment from the bandstand by Shadows Music.

There will also be a competition to guess how many peas will fit inside a doll’s house, with prizes - including a holiday abroad - donated by Terry Sayers.
