A family fun day and barbecue has raised almost £2,500 for charity in memory of a Scarborough woman who lost her battle with breast cancer three years ago.

Organisers Sian Johnson, Lorraine Harding and Karen Scotter (pictured left to right) were delighted with the result of all their hard work organising the event at the Hospital Social Club.

A total of £2,429 was raised for St Catherine’s Hospice and the St Catherine’s Hospice Macmillan Nurses in memory of Dawn Scotter, Karen’s sister who was helped by the hospice team in 2010.

The event was launched to celebrate Dawn’s life and the three women have been overwhelmed by the generosity of businesses and people who have donated an array of raffle prizes.

They said: “We would like to thank the hospital for the use of the club and all of the volunteers who helped on the day to make the event fun and such a success. There are already plans for next year and the date will be around July 25, 2014.”

Hospice fundraiser Penny Campbell (pictured far right) said: “Such a large sum of money is the result of many hours of hard work before and during the event for which we are truly grateful.”
