A CAT has been blinded in one eye after it was shot with an air weapon.

Owner Penny Tiley, of Beaconsfield Street, Scarborough, was initially told that her five-year-old pet Cookie may have been hit by a car or have a tumour before vets discovered a pellet during an operation.

Now she has been left with a £600 vet bill and is refusing to let Cookie or any of her three other cats outside over fears for their safety.

“He just came in one day howling with his eye bulging,” Penny said. “It is shocking.

“I don’t know why people would want to shoot a cat. I think it’s sick.”

The shooting has been reported to the police, who are investigating and have taken the .22 pellet as evidence.

“I hope they are prosecuted,” Penny added.

The shooting took place between September 29 and October 4.
