PENSIONERS in Scarborough are being reminded to get switched on and register for a free television licence.
Bosses from TV Licensing and charity Age UK have revealed anyone set to celebrate their 75th birthday are entitled to receive a free licence.
Michelle Mitchell, charity director for Age UK, said: “The cost of living continues to rise and affects everyone, but particularly older people who live on low fixed incomes.
“The free over 75 licence is a valuable concession which offers older people the chance to have a little extra to put towards other bills.
“We would encourage those who are already 75 and have not yet applied for their free licence to contact TV Licensing.
“People aged 74 should also get in touch so that a short term licence can be arranged.”
However, bosses have warned the licences are not granted automatically so people must apply.
Anyone eligible for a free licence can apply online at www.tvlicensing.co.uk/over75.
Alternatively, they can call 0300 790 6073.
