Appeal set for huge collection

SCARBOROUGH’S Poppy Appeal is set to smash previous records again after organisers announced a huge collection in the town.

The annual appeal for the Royal British Legion currently stands at £58,901.17, after mammoth donations during the last two months.

The figure is already close to eclipsing last year’s £59,065.48, and comes from donations to street collectors, collection tins and various fundraising efforts.

Beryl Anderson, organiser of Scarborough’s Poppy Appeal, said: “I am overwhelmed with the support of the Scarborough people for our charity and cannot thank them enough.”

This year’s appeal runs until September 2012.
