Association equality talk

SCARBOROUGH’S Older Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans Association spread the message of equality at its latest annual general meeting.

More than 50 people and organisations were treated to an afternoon of cabaret and keynote at the meeting in the Palm Court Hotel to highlight the work the group has done in the area.

Among the speakers were cllr Penny Marsden and Sue Mann, from Age UK. Cllr Marsden thanked the association on behalf of the council for advice resulting in recent policy changes and offered its continued support.

Sgt Jacqui Raynor said the group is a Hate Crime third party reporting centre, and hoped that homophobic crimes would be reported.

The group helps a gay and lesbian community of around 6,000 in the Scarborough and Ryedale area and works alongside North Yorkshire County Council, Health and Social Care Services, Scarborough Council and Tees, Esk and Wear Valley NHS Mental Health Trust.
