Attempted lead theft at church

Police in Scarborough are investigating after thieves attempted to steal lead from the roof of a local church hall.

Officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed any suspicious behaviour in the vicinity of St Saviours Church Hall, Gladstone Road, overnight between Saturday September 13 and Sunday September 14, to come forward with information.

The suspects unsuccessfully attempted to remove lead cladding from the roof of the hall and from around a window.

During the incident damage was caused to a drain pipe and an outflow pipe, which the church will have to pay to have repaired.

Anyone who can help officers with their enquiries is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for PC Darrel Temple or Scarborough police.
