Author Mike joins forum’s debate

FORMER Ryedale copper turned author Mike Pannett is the special guest at a meeting of the Scarborough Urban Area Forum.

Mike Pannett, who has written three best-selling autobiographical accounts of his time as a rural police officer operating in North Yorkshire, will be part of a question and answer panel at an event to promote awareness of the introduction of directly elected police and crime commissioners for each police force area in the country.

The event takes place on May 9 from 7pm in Scarborough Library in Vernon Road.

Following an information presentation by Safer Communities and the North Yorkshire Police Authority there will be an open question and answer session where residents will be able to put their views, opinions and questions to the panel which will also include local councillors, officers and experts.

Newly elected chairman of the Forum, Ros Fox, said: “It will be a very important debate, given the changes in the way police forces could soon be run and I’m delighted Mike Pannett has agreed to be on the panel. He will bring a real insight into policing to the debate.”

Mike’s first book Now Then, Lad was a best seller and he followed it up with You’re Coming With Me, Lad and Just Teh Job Lad.

He will also be one of the special guests at a Festival of Yorkshire event at Scarborough Library in August.
