Baton raised on concerts

A NEW season of concerts is about to begin at Queen Street Central Hall.

The series is bookended by Scarborough Concert Band, who will play the first and last concerts of the series, tonight and on 10 September.

The band will perform film themes, big-band numbers, jazz, marches and solos.

Formed over 50 years ago, the band, now conducted by Malcolm Appleby, has been giving concerts in and around the town ever since. Coming up in the series are Bramcote Chamber Choir (6 July), Castleford Young Musicians (9 July), Manhattan Voices (13 July), Simply Brass (20 July), Queen Street Players (27 July and 3 Aug), Classic Pop Singers Choir (10 Aug), Ayton Ladies Choir (17 Aug), Tenor Eleven (24 Aug), Celebration Choir (31 Aug) and James Aconley (3 Sep).

The concerts are due to begin at 7.45pm.
