A THREE-MILE stretch of beach has been closed at Hunmanby Gap after an unknown substance washed up on the shoreline.
Police were called by the coastguard today, at around 1.45pm following the discovery of the objects, described as white granules of an unknown nature.
As a precaution, the beach has been closed to members of the public and police are asking people to observe the closures until the precise nature of the items has been identified and officers are satisfied there is no longer a health risk.
A specialist unit is currently testing the substance at the location.
The incident comes just two days after Filey beach was evacuated following the discovery of a Second World War grenade.
