A motorcyclist has died following a major crash on the road between Scarborough and Whitby.

The collision, which occurred on the A171 near the Falcon Inn at around 10.20am this morning, involved a silver Nissan X-trail and a white Yamaha motorcycle which was travelling towards Scarborough in company with another bike.

As a result, the rider of the white Yamaha, a 47-year-old man from Stockton, was seriously injured and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed for most of the day while police cleared the scene and gathered evidence.

Officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle prior to the incident to contact them with information.
