EVENING News reader Chris Phillips has shared this colourful collection of photographs – all taken in his garden on Christmas Day.

Mr Phillips, who is secretary of Scarborough Philatelic Society, is also a keen photographer and a regular contributor to the photo gallery on the Evening News website.

He normally takes photos of the garden’s blooms every year on Christmas Day, but was thwarted last year by the bad weather.

Mr Phillips, of Alexandra Park, said: “It’s definitely more colourful this year. I was surprised to find so many different flowers. The berberis came out extremely early – there was a whole bush of it. I would normally expect winter jasmine to be out, but the raspberries did surprise me!”

He added that he enjoys taking close-ups of subject matter such as flowers and insects, then enlarging them.

Mr Phillips is also in the process of making a series of videos about Scarborough traditions, such as the New Year’s Day dip.
