Boys led to safety from 300ft castle headland

TWO teenage boys were rescued by coastguard teams from cliffs above Marine Drive in Scarborough last night.

They had become stranded on the 300ft high cliffs near Hairy Bob’s skatepark.

Coastguard rescue two teenage boys who were climbing on the cliffs above Marine Drive at about 5.30pm Monday. The coastguard were from Filey and Burniston, and said the boys were on the highest part of the cliffs on the Castle headland. The were led to safety at the top, in the grounds of Scarborough Castle, and taken away by Police. Seperately two children were found running around in the Castle grounds. Emergency crews were called to Marine Drive at 5.10pm after the boys were spotted by police officers.

Coastguard teams attended the scene from Scarborough, Filey and Burniston.

A spokesman said: “We assembled and put together a full rope rescue.

“The lads were taken up the cliff to the top safely.

“There were no injuries and no medical assistance was required.”

The boys, who were in their early teens, were taken home by police to their parents.
