Scarborough Borough Council has voted to freeze council tax for the fourth year running.

The Labour group tabled a motion to raise the tax by 1.94 per cent, about £4 a year to a band D property, but it was defeated.

Council leader Tom Fox said it would have been “irresponsible” for the council to pass the burden onto its residents in “these times of austerity”.
