BREAKING NEWS: Suspected bomb found on Scarborough building site

A BOMB scare resulted in one of the key routes into Scarborough being closed off on Friday afternoon.

A bomb disposal unit at Catterick was called out to check what was thought to be a suspected unexploded Second World War bomb found on a building site in Seamer Road.

More than two hours after the incident began the unit took away the canister saying they were "80 per cent certain" it may be a gas canister.

But they decided to take it away in their vehicle from the scene for further examination

Police closed off the road between Valley Road and Queen Margaret's Road roundabout and sealed off an area on the site around the 3ft 6ins long device which measured 9ins in diameter.
