Police have this morning closed off North Street, in Scarborough town centre, after a suspicious package was found in the area.
There is no access at either end of North Street, and vehicles are unable to enter and exit the NCP car park.
Waterhouse Lane and Aberdeen Terrace have also been closed off.
The army is believed to be sending a bomb disposal team to examine the package.
The Scarborough News understands that a shop worker raised the alarm after spotting what looked like a suspicious device in an abandoned pram.
