Scarborough Lions Club has confirmed that there will be no bonfire and fireworks display this year.
The club told The Scarborough News that it had not been able to get site for the display and blamed Scarborough Council for the fact that the event, which attracts more than 5,000 people, will not be taking place.
Alan Deacon, spokesman for the Lions, said: “The council have not been able to provide a site as it said that Weaponness and Burniston Road car park were not available and we could not find suitable site for 5,000 people.
“I think it’s the first time in about 20 years that there will not have been one.
“The council has not been cooperative I’m afraid to say.”
