BREAKING: Scarborough man dies in A64 crash

A 22-year-old man has died after the car he was travelling in overturned on the A64 near Tadcaster on Monday afternoon.

The single vehicle collision occurred on the eastbound carriageway of the A64 at around 3.25pm, when a blue Renault Clio overturned and came to rest in a ditch.

One of the passengers in the vehicle, a 22-year-old man from Scarborough, suffered fatal injuries in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle, a 24-year-old man from Scarborough, suffered minor injuries in the incident. He was taken to York Hospital for treatment.

Another man, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was treated at Leeds General Infirmary for minor injuries sustained in the collision.

The road was closed to allow officers to examine the scene of the collision. It was reopened at around 8.40pm.

Officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to contact them with information.
