CREATIVE young people are being invited to send in iconic shots of Scarborough to be used for publicity for the town’s proposed new £6 million youth facility, The Street.
The youth centre will be built on William Street Coach Park. As well as youth facilities, it will also house various voluntary and community groups, who will move from the ageing Allatt House building in West Parade Road.
Building work should begin this year, with the building scheduled to open in the summer of 2012.
Communications officer Laura Rothwell said: “To be part of the competition we are asking for all young people aged 11-19 to send their photos of Iconic Scarborough. This might be something that is not obvious or even recognised by other people, we want a snapshot through your youthful eyes! A whole new spin on what makes Scarborough stand out for you.”
The winner will receive a digital camera and a few lessons from a Scarborough-based photography expert. The winner will also have their images used throughout the branding, website and promotions for The Street.
All entries should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org by February 8.
The Street will bring 20 new community services to Scarborough, and will include a cafe, climbing wall, classrooms, an indoor sports hall and media and IT suites.
