A SCARBOROUGH bakery which started business in Helmsley is celebrating its 30th anniversary.
Thomas the Baker, which has a shop on the corner of Westborough and Aberdeen Walk, is celebrating the milestone by selling thirteen of its most popular products for £1.
Managing Director John Thomas established Thomas the Baker in 1981 when he and his wife Val began making Chorley cakes in their converted garage.
The couple soon had a small bakery in Helmsley and a shop in Malton. Today there are 35 shops across North Yorkshire and Teesside employing 450 staff across the business.
Thomas’s is particularly renowned for its sausage rolls, selling up to 80,000 every week.
Mr Thomas’s two sons are both involved in the business; Gareth as a director and Simon as general manager.
