Business as usual but staff in shock

WEDDINGS, functions, and bookings are all set to go ahead as planned at the Royal Hotel.

Despite parent company English Rose Hotels Scarborough Ltd going in to administration, business is continuing as normal at the Royal Hotel, in St Nicholas Street.

Staff were left “shocked and worried” after being told the news yesterday, but workers are continuing to run the hotel under the rule of administrators.

General manager David Hull, who was been at the front of the hotel since English Rose took it over 12 years ago, said: “I think the big thing we have to get across to people is that it is business as usual.

“Staff here took the news reasonably well, and they remain optimistic that a buyer will be found.

“In the meantime we have to let people know we are still here and still open.

“We have a function and a wedding this weekend and everything is going ahead as normal.”
