The new Scarborough News campaign to help local retail businesses has been given the thumbs up from our readers.
The scheme is also being backed b y National Car Parks, whose business manager Mark Lindsey travelled from Newcastle to lend his company’s support.
He said: “We are delighted to support the Scarborough News with its Shop Small campaign by launching a new deal for customers at our Balmoral car park.
“This allows shoppers to park on Thursdays and Fridays from 3pm to 7pm for just £2.50 all summer, offering customers more than a 50 per cent saving and encouraging people to visit the local shops and to dine out throughout the summer months.”
He added: “NCP also offers a very successful early bird deal if you park before 10am.
“We continue to do all we can to work to support our local retailers and encourage people to stay local and keep their high street thriving.”
His comments were backed by our website commentators. DaxToys: “It’s great to get behind the small independent businesses; times are hard and many small businesses are suffering; people need to stop using the internet and actually visit the fantastic shops in town.
“You can’t beat seeing the item before purchasing. We have some fantastic small shops in Scarborough, many offering unique items.
“I think one of the best treasures of the town is Scarborough Market Vaults which has over 30 independent small shops all offering great service, many selling items that you can’t get any where else.”
Andilis: “Great! This is what Scarborough needs.
“We need small shops – look up the coast to Whitby where we could learn a lesson. Have you seen their streets? Full of shoppers with bags.”
