A banking giant is set to close one of their Scarborough branches only weeks before Christmas after customer numbers plummeted
The HSBC branch, in Falsgrave, will shut its doors on Friday December 14.
However, the closure will not impact any jobs in the town, with HCSB confirming that the two members of staff at the bank will be transferred to their other branch in St Nicholas Street,
Letters have now been posted to customers there, notifying them of the closure.
An HSBC spokesperson said that the main reason behind the closure is a ‘dramatic’ decline in footfall at the branch.
They added: “Customer usage of the branch has fallen very significantly over the past few years as our customers are tending to use our other branch on St Nicholas Street in the town which is open for longer hours and at weekends. “We have to ensure that our branches are located in areas where they are actually used.
“This decision was not taken lightly and we will now be working with the small number of customers who use the branch to help them re-organise their finances ahead of the planned closure on 14 December.
“Customers will be able to use our other branch in Scarborough and they will continue to be able to use any of the numerous cash machines in the locality.”
An ATM will still be available.
