A Scarborough coach builder is set to move into new markets after impressing at a trade show in Australia.
Last week Bluebird Vehicles exhibited its Orinon Plus, a 25 passenger, low floor minibus with wheelchair access, at the Australian Coach and Bus Show in Sydney.
The company sees Australia as an ideal export location for the minibus as Australians also drive on the left leaving only the climate as the main difference to the UK.
By boosting the heating and air conditioning units, and switching the speedometer for kilometres Bluebird hopes it will make the vehicle perfect for the market down under - where it faces little competition.
Response at the Australian Coach and Bus Show was so positive that Bluebird’s managing director, Rob Miller, feels confident they will significantly boost production at the Scarborough factory in Paxton Park as a result of export sales. Mr Miller said: “I have been overwhelmed by the response here in Sydney.
“I am thrilled that a Yorkshire company can make such an impact so far from home.
“This is great news for Bluebird and great news for Scarborough.”
The company’s Australian agent, Don Imire, added: “The school bus market is ideal for the Orion Plus.”
