A DECISION is expected to be made today over the future of a Scarborough town centre store, after the company announced 1,400 jobs would be axed following the closure of 160 stores.
Fashion chain Bon Marche, which has a store in Westborough, has announced that approximately two thirds of its stores will be shut after private equity firm Sun European Partners acquired the chain from administrators for an undisclosed amount.
Following news of the acquisition, the company announced that all of their staff would be informed by the close of business yesterday whether their store was one of those due to be axed.
However, store management confirmed to the Evening News that a conference call revealing their fate will be made at 9am today.
The store closures mean Bon Marche will continue to employ about 2,400 of the chain’s 3,800-strong workforce.
Bon Marche was part of the collapsed retailer Peacocks Group.
However, this deal means that Bon Marche will remain on the high street, albeit with a greatly reduced presence.
