YORKSHIRE’S finalists have been announced in the 2011 “Rural Oscars”, with top local businesses vying for titles.
The Countryside Alliance Awards are now in their seventh year of celebrating the characters, skills, traditions and enterprise of the countryside.
Each finalist has received nominations from customers and supporters and hopes to go all the way to the Parliamentary final next March.
Local businesses to make the shortlist include Hunters of Helmsley, who have been nominated in the local food category, Wholecrop Marketing, of Kirkburn, Driffield, in the enterprise category, and Wardill Bros General Store, Thornton Le Dale Village Shop, in the post office category.
Countryside Alliance Yorkshire regional director Simon Hamlyn said: “These businesses represent the very best of Yorkshire’s produce, enterprise and community spirit and I congratulate the finalists on getting this far in what is an increasingly competitive awards scheme.”
