TWO foodies who have spend their careers working in the industry have opened their own delicatessen.

John Dixon and Mark Thompson are celebrating the opening of The Little Cheese and Wine Shop, in North Street.

The venture is their first business, and sees the pair combine years of experience in the food industry.

Mr Thompson, who has worked at Sara Lee bakers, Cooplands and McCain, said: “Me and John both left McCain to start our own business. We have put everything in to this. We thought there was a niche market for a deli this side of town, and believed we could really fit in to the retail scene here.

“Our contacts in the industry have really helped us, and we have had a lot of support getting set up.

“I’m really pleased with how the shop looks, we just need the support of local customers now, and hope to attract trade in the run up to Christmas with our hand picked hampers.”

Speaking about the shop’s first few days Mr Dixon added; “It has been excellent so far. We have had some really nice customers and some nice comments about the shop. A lot of businesses have been very supportive too.”

The Little Cheese and Wine Shop stocks more than 30 different cheeses, and sources local meats and pastries.
