SCARBOROUGH’S iconic ice cream parlour has scooped top prize at this year’s Great Yorkshire Show.
Harbour Bar’s homemade ice cream won three first places, two second and a third.
The Sandside-based business also claimed an Outstanding Quality Award at the show, which has been running this week at the Harrogate Showground.
Giulian Alonzi, who is the second generation in the Alonzi family to run the business, said: “I compete at the Great Yorkshire Show every year.
“I like to enter because it is a great competition in which a lot of local ice cream producers enter, particularly dairy farmers.
“It is good to know how you place alongside them, and obviously I am very pleased to have won first place in three categories, as well as getting placings for another three.”
Harbour Bar’s first place awards were for its Dairy Vanilla, Dairy Chocolate and Dairy Smooth Strawberry, while Hazlenut, Raspberry and Peach and Mango also scored awards.
The Harbour Bar also donated an Ice Cream trike and a Candy Floss machine to Welcome to Yorkshire, which set up a beach display at the show, complete with sand from Scarborough Beach.
The Great Yorkshire Show sees thousands of people from across the county exhibit live stock, animals, crafts, cookery and baking, vegetables and more.
The three day event, now in its 153rd year, saw visitor numbers just touch below the all time record of 135,111 established in 2006, with 135,086 people visiting.
