Miss Scarborough knows where to go when she wants to get her shopping when she is in the Northstead area of the town.
Nisa Local in North Leas shop officially reopened its doors, after being extended into a vacant property next door, and 20-year-old Eleanor Hardie was on hand to perform the duty.
She said she was pleased to be there and was still getting used to her new role. She added: “It is a privilege, definitely. I am shocked at how interested people are about it. This is only my second appearance that I’ve done.”
She said that the beach was her favourite aspect of the area – she is currently studying environmental science at the University of Hull Scarborough Campus. She added: “I love the sea – it’s great.”
Daniel Wilson, the shop’s owner, said that they had been based there for about four years and it made sense to extend into the neighbouring property when it became vacant.
He added: “For the last year we’ve been looking to extend it. It had closed down.”
When the shop reopened on Saturday there was an entertainer to keep the children entertained with face painting, magic tricks and plate spinning.
