Jobs lost as milkshake firm’s branch closes

THE Scarborough branch of an international milkshake company has shut up shop.

Notices announcing the closure were placed in the windows of ShakeAway, which was based in the Brunswick Shopping Centre, this week and the shutters remained down on the unit near the main entrance.

The notice read: “Sadly we have had to close our lovely ShakeAway store. We will miss our brilliant customers and our lovely staff but unfortunately economics mean we could not keep it open.

“In the meantime see us at www.shakeaway.com for your nearest store. Thanks for your loyal support.”

According to the company’s website milkshake fans will now have to travel to either Leeds or Sheffield for a tasty dairy beverage.

The Scarborough branch was awarded a food hygiene rating of five and it was one of the area’s Fairtrade outlets.

The company has shops in the UK, Eire and the United Arab Emirates.
