SCARBOROUGH’S tourism industry is shining once again as a selection of the town’s businesses are named as finalists for this year’s White Rose Awards.

The awards, dubbed the “Oscars of the tourism industry”, recognise quality tourism across Yorkshire.

The Crown Spa Hotel, in the Esplanade, which also made the finals last year, is once again in the running, this time competing in both the Large Hotel of the Year category and for the Sustainable Tourism Award.

Also finalists for the second year running are the Sands seafront apartments which have made the shortlist for the Self Catering, Cruisers and Serviced Apartments award.

The Copper Horse, in Seamer, will be battling it out for the Yorkshire Pub of the Year title.

The roll of honour for October’s ceremony also features a number of business from across Ryedale and the Yorkshire Coast.

The Bed & Breakfast/Guest accommodation of the Year category features All Seasons Guest House in Filey, 17 Burgate in Pickering, and Moorlands Country House in Levisham.

Jasmine Park, in Snainton, will be battling it out against three other parks in the Caravan Holiday Park or Village award, while the White Swan Inn, in Pickering, is shortlisted for Small Hotel of the Year.

Whitby is also represented as The Leeway is shortlisted alongside Scarborough’s Crown Spa Hotel in the Sustainable Tourism Award.

Pickering could be in line for more awards with Cedarbarn Farm Shop and Cafe in the Taste of Yorkshire Award, and Pickering Tourist Information making the finals.

Janet Deacon, Welcome to Yorkshire area director for North Yorkshire, said: “It is fantastic news that so many businesses in our area have been shortlisted for the White Rose Awards.

“These awards really showcase the superb standard of the tourism offer in Yorkshire and being shortlisted is a superb achievement.

“We will now keep our fingers crossed and hope that many if not all those on the shortlist, walk away with an award later in the year.”

The winners will be crowned at a ceremony at Doncaster Racecourse on Monday October 10.
