A BEAUTICIAN is hoping to add a touch of glamour to Scarborough’s Market Hall after opening her own salon.
Katie Marsden has created The Beauty Room within the historic hall after deciding to start her own business in the town.
No stranger to running her own salon, Miss Marsden previously worked for herself in the beauty trade in Spain, prior to which she trained and worked in Harrogate.
Two years after moving to Scarborough Miss Marsden decided the time was right to set up shop on the coast.
She said: “After living in Spain we decided when we came back to England we wanted change, and wanted to live somewhere new to us, so we chose Scarborough.
“When we first moved to Scarborough I worked in mental health care, but I got the point where I wanted to set up by myself in hair and beauty again.
“I went to the hair dressers in the Market Hall and saw there was an empty unit there.”
Miss Marsden says she likes the atmosphere within the Market Hall, and believes it has the potential to become as popular centre for trade.
She said: “I hope that by opening the Beauty Room here I can help the market get a bit busier by bringing a new type of clientele into the hall, and working with the hairdressers already here to offer a full beauty package. There are a great variety of shops and stalls here, and hopefully it will one day be the heart of Scarborough again.”
Miss Marsden opened the salon last month and says the business is growing steadily as she is already enjoying repeat custom.
