A MOCK trial will be held at Scarborough Business Park, Eastfield, on February 10.
The event will be based around two commercial disputes and will give participants the opportunity to pick up legal tips that can be put into practice with their own business - including how to avoid the need to go to court at all.
Issues that will be looked at include how to bring a claim against a debtor, how to defend a claim, the importance of terms and conditions, issues surrounding the supply of defective goods, calculation of losses, directors’ duties, lack of managerial authority and liquidity problems.
The event will also demonstrate the theatre of the court room and how a trial is run.
It is suitable for various kinds of business people to attend, as almost all businesses will deal with a claim at some stage.
Consequently owners, manager, directors and other key staff responsible for bringing or defending claims that arise, including debt collection, would learn from this experience.
The mock trial is being held by Langleys solicitors on Thursday February 10 at Unit 17 Manor Court, Scarborough Business Park, Eastfield.
Registration and breakfast will be held at 8am, followed by an introduction, cases and cross examination from 8.30am.
There will be a coffee break at 10am. Closing arguments, judgement and questions will take place from 10.20am. Court rises and departs at 11am. For more details call (01904) 610886.
