MORE beach chalets could be built in Scarborough.
Plans to increase the number of chalets and improve existing beach huts could go before Scarborough Council as early as next month.
It is hoped that the move will bring additional income in to council coffers.
Brian Bennett, the council’s head of tourism and culture, said: “We are quite confident that there is demand there. We know that from the long waiting list of people wishing to acquire beach huts.”
The move has come after the council embarked on a consultation exercise to find out whether any private companies were interested in running or managing its beach chalet services.
Mr Bennett added: “We have had a response and considered them as a result of that consultation.
“We are now looking at further options in relation to the council’s beach huts. The options will be put to our councillors for them to consider and make a decision on the way forward.”
More beach chalets could also be built in Whitby and Filey.
