A new nursery has opened in Scarborough as a family looks to capitalise on the growing need for child care in the town.

Madhatters Nursery is now up and running in Nelson Street after being created by owner Gail Storey.

The business is run by Mrs Storey’s daughter Claire and friend Beckie, and has already created four jobs with more opportunities for employment likely in the future as the customer base grows.

Madhatters joins a long list of nurseries in Scarborough, but Mrs Gail says there are still gaps in the market for child care provision.

She said: “As the popultion grows, and more and more parents are in full time work, the need for child care grows too.

“Friends and family have children in other nurseries and many of them say there are waiting lists to join. This shows the need in the area, and we hope to fill that need.

“We have thought about setting up a business like this for a while, and with Claire and Becky already having 30 years experience in the industry between them, they are ideal to take it forward.

“The opportunity for the building then came up, and we thought it was an ideal location.

“We are really pleased with how it has turned out. We have got some lovely children in already and everyone has been very supportive and helpful. We look forward to growing the business now.
