SCARBOROUGH’S Law Society has a new president.

The role has been handed to family lawyer and associate solicitor Kate Young.

Mrs Young, who has been a lawyer at Thorpe and Co Solicitors in Valley Bridge Parade since October last year, is looking forward to taking on the positions.

She said; “We are quite an active society and I am keen to make sure we are as active as possible over the next couple of years.

“We are going through a really difficult time as a profession and I am hoping that as the local group we can work together and help the community through the difficulties, assist solicitors who are struggling, and make sure we work as a group to promote the society.

“I am really quite excited about it.”

As president of the society Mrs Young has chosen Scarborough Lifeboat as the group’s charity, and is already planning fundraisers along with some of the Law Society’s own events.

Mrs Young has taken over the role from Fiona Mullane.

Mrs Mullane, who is a solicitor at Tubbs and Co has held the presidency for the last three years.

She said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my three years as president. I am pleased to be handing over the role to Kate Young and wish her all the best during her time in the role.”
