FIVE well-known culinary personalities have agreed to be patrons of this year’s Malton Food Lovers Festival.
Italian cook Antonio Carluccio and award-winning food writer and critic Matthew Fort are the two newest Patrons announced for the festival on May 19 and 20.
They join food columnist and television presenter Tom Parker Bowles, the distinguished kitchen grand dame, Rosemary Shrager and the Yorkshire Coast College-trained Andrew Pern, chef patron of The Star Inn at Harome.
Antonio Carluccio, who champions great local British food, visited Malton to meet the producers exhibiting at Malton’s first ever indoor Food Lovers Markets and to adopt a local rare breed piglet he named ‘Sophia.’
He was so impressed by the food culture of the town that he readily agreed to champion the Food Lovers Festival and will be part of the planned programme of demonstrations and tasting tutorials.
The 2012 event in Malton’s Market Place will feature a two-day programme of celebrity chef demonstrations, more than 100 stallholders highlighting quality regional specialities and local seasonal produce, an expanded Beer, Wine and Cider Festival in the Milton Rooms and an extended Welcome To Yorkshire Food Lovers Taste Trail around the town.
