A POPULAR specialist vegetarian cafe has closed after five years in Scarborough.
Nutmeg Cafe, in Victoria Road, earned a reputation among local vegetarians and vegans for its appetising cooking.
However its owners Rob and Elaine have decided to move on to pastures new, with the cafe now closed.
The move has been met with sadness by former customers.
Regulars David and Amanda Nunns, of Newby, said: “This Scarborough cafe was a hidden delight: Rob and Elaine cooked wonderful meals and desserts to a standard of excellence hard to match in top London restaurants.
“Scarborough really has been lucky to have this expertise for the last five years.
“The cruelty free and green ethos of this busy cafe with its friendly and efficient service has enriched the loves of its loyal followers who looked forward to superb meals week after week and also found the cafe a stimulating meeting place where friendships could be made and sustained.
“Thank you Rob and Elaine for all your hard work, ethics and exceptional talent; a great business model that made the Nutmeg so popular.”
It is believed plans are in place for the business to be taken over by new owners who will continue to run it as a vegetarian and vegan cafe.
