Owners of a Scarborough printing supplier are looking to quadruple their workforce after investing £72,000 in their premises.

CK Ink Direct has grown to such an extent that it now encompasses three warehouses in Londesborough Road, and a newly extended office.

The business, which supplies printer consumables, started as a two-man operation just nine years, and is now in need of a 47-strong team.

Prior to the office extension 12 staff were employed. Ten more have since been taken on, with 25 vacancies still available.

Jobs on offer range from receptionists and sales advisors to supervisors and managers.

Managing director Lee Keenan, who runs the business with partner Laura Cooper, said: “We started in January 2004 as a small business, and we have steadily grown over the years to our present size. We feel it is now time to take the company to the next level.

“Although we acknowledge the current economic climate is poor we feel that now is the time to move the company forward, so we are in a commanding position when the economy becomes more stable.

“I am proud to have lived in Scarborough all my life, and recently seeing the bad publicity Scarborough has received in the national press regarding the lack of job opportunities I feel this made my final decision for us to go ahead with the office extension to create further jobs, that will benefit local people for years to come.”

Since being established the business has grown from a small office in Central Chambers, Westborough, with just two staff, to an office in Londesborough Road.

CK Ink Direct then moved into warehouse space before trebling its premises.

Mr Keenan attributed the growth to hard work and drive of his staff.

He said: “We just all really believe in what we are doing and what we can achieve.

“We supply our consumables all over the country, and are still growing to the extent that we may need to take on more people in the near future.”
