A new reptile house is to be opened to the public in Scarborough and the owner is hoping it will help him scale new heights in business.
Jordan Woodhead, 19, has amassed a collection of more than 40 exotic pets since he was a child. Along with a crocodile and various snakes, he owns a water monitor lizard called Charlie, a tegu called Bruno and a particularly grumpy chameleon called Kevin.
The collection is like nothing else available in the town and the venture has been a labour of love for the teenager
The reptile house, which Jordan and his father built by hand, is located on Racecourse Road next to Pinewood Holiday Park.
“We will give families a more personal experience than a zoo,” he said.
“We provide the opportunity to share my personal fascination with these amazing animals in a safe environment.”
Jordan considers the animals to be family members, claiming that they are just the same to him as cats and dogs are to others.
“Some people think I’m crazy when I tell them I have a crocodile as a pet,” he joked.
“Now I’d really like others to get to know them all, learn about them, and even have their photographs taken, if they wanted.”
