Riders set for protest

A MOUNTAIN bike centre near Scarborough has ramped up its fight to stave off potential closure.

Bosses at Purple Mountain Bike Centre and Cafe, in Dalby Forest, face being replaced by Eurest and Pace Cycles in a major shake-up.

However, chiefs have revealed they have already received more than 1,000 signatures on a petition and will hold a protest bike ride on Saturday.

The venue earned rave reviews last year and in 2010 after playing its part in the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Championships.

The protest rally will leave Forestry Commission offices, in Pickering, at 10.30am and will ride to Purple Mountain Cafe. For more information log on to www.purplemountain.co.uk
