Administrators have been appointed and are looking for a buyer for Bakery Products Ltd – which took over as the new owner of Scarborough’s Woodhead bakery last year – it has been confirmed.

In a statement from The P&A Partnership it said that John Russell and Andy Wood, from the partnership, were appointed joint administrators of Bakery Products Ltd Scarborough on Friday.

Mr Wood said: “At this stage we are assessing the company with a view to finding a buyer.”

During the weekend the Woodhead shop in Westborough displayed a notice in the window stating the business had gone in to administration. It read: “Sorry closed gone in to administration. Thanks for your custom.”

The shop, along with two other Scarborough Woodhead outlets, was taken over by Bakery Products Ltd when Woodhead the Bakers went in to administration in March last year.

It also took over the running of the Beaconsfield Street factory, and eight other Woodhead shops across the region – it maintained the Woodhead name at many stores.

The deal, which coincided with Scarborough bakers Cooplands taking over the remaining 18 Woodhead shops, saw all 280 jobs saved at the bakers.

Bakery Products Ltd, which is based in the Midlands, is a subsidiary of the Haldanes Retail Group owned by Scarborough-born entrepreneur Arthur Harris.
