MUCH-LOVED Scarborough sports shop Sydenhams closed its doors on Saturday - but will temporarily reopen again in two weeks’ time.
Sydenham Sports, in Huntriss Row, was originally due to shut down at the end of May, but this was extended by three weeks due to the store being inundated with orders following news of its closure.
However, despite Saturday being billed as its final day, it will reopen on Saturday July 2 for at least a further 10 days as it looks to clear its remaining stock.
Owner Michael Mosey, 71, who is retiring, founded the business in 1963 with his mother and grandfather.
The shop originally opened in Westborough before moving to its Huntriss Row site, formerly the Midland Bank, in 1965.
Mr Mosey had planned to run the shop until a buyer was found for the business.
However, after more than a year on the market, no-one has come forward as a buyer or tenant for the building.
