SCARBOROUGH’S Swedish bank is expanding as it welcomes a new member of staff to the team.

Handelsbanken has taken on Emma Boyes as an account manager supporter at the Scarborough Business Park branch.

Mrs Boyes is the second new addition to the team this year, following the appointment of Russ Grimshaw as Corporate Banking manager in 2009.

Since the branch opened in February 2009, Mrs Boyes is the first female banker to join the team of five.

She has 10 years’ experience under her belt working at Yorkshire Bank, spending the past four years of her career as a mortgage advisor.

Mrs Boyes said: “I was just ready for a change. I wanted to stay in banking but at the same time I wanted something completely different, and that is what Handelsbanken offers.

“In the past it has always been about meeting targets. I didn’t like that side of high street banking.

“Coming here is like a breath of fresh air. Because we are not chasing targets all the time. The customer is really our main focus.

“Also doing both corporate and personal banking means I am learning so much more, and hopefully in the next 12 months I will be moving up the ladder.

“Because there isn’t a central department to do everything for you, you do it all yourself, and learn more in the process.

“The opportunities here career wise are just fantastic. I couldn’t be happier.”

Mrs Boyes has joined branch manager Nick Sharples, corporate managers Russ Grimshaw and Paul Fogal, individual banking manager Mike Gould, and account manager supporter David Gregory.

Mr Sharples said: “Emma has settled in really well. She is very bright and well liked by the customers she has been in contact with.

“For us we are looking at succession planning. Because we are all a bit older we need young blood coming in.

“Going forward I can see Emma will have a great career with Handelsbanken.

“She joins us as we are growing as a branch, and we are still putting on business.”

Handelsbanken is a Swedish bank with branches throughout the Nordic market as well as 16 other countries.

The Scarborough branch was Handelsbanken’s 55th branch in the UK.

In May Handelsbanken opened it 100th UK branch in Ilkely, West Yorkshire.

The bank now employs more than 800 staff nationwide, with more than 700 branches in 22 countries.

It was recently ranked number one in an independent survey of British bank customers.
